Reality Check & Fun Facts

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 10, 2005, 6:55 AM

:bulletpurple: Reality Check
==============

There's two things we know about the Starfire/Raven in real life:

1) In the actual animated series of Teen Titans, Starfire and Raven are not a couple. This is just to let the other shippers know that we're not that dense to not realized that. We made this club because we like them as a pairing eventhough that will not happen, ever.

2) Because it's Cartoon Network. They're might be open-minded about violence but I highly doubt they're open-minded about homosexuality. This is after all, a kid's show. There are still many parents don't want their delicate children to be exposed with this kind of stuff.

:bulletpurple: Fun Fact
==============

Based on the original classic Teen Titans comic books, Starfire and Raven do have feelings for each other. It could be just sisterly love but at least it showed that those two are very close. Thanks to ~chamzi for this info and these scans.

Chamzi: Dug these up from the issue where Nightwing and Star were supposed to get married. Don't worry it aint Star/Night its got a Raven Star kiss for you guys to feed on.

scan 1 : scan 2 : scan 3

-------

Chamzi: This ones from New Titans #39 where Raven was conviced that she was inlove with Nightwing and Starfire showed her otherwise. It was more like she was "inlove with being inlove" I belive Wonder Girl told that to Star once when Robin was being a dick head. lol. I'll see if I can find more stuff to fuel you guys but I gotta wait till I get paid and go back into the city for more comics.

scan from NT#39

-------

Chamzi: I bought more of the older isues of New Titans and dug up some more Rav/Star for you guys to enjoy :D They're from New Titans #108.

Even in the animated series, Star and Raven have a sort of bond. Sure, they don't show it, but it's there. After all, how could they not have, after "Switched"? Meditating and going to the mall together? Yes, it is much love. Wish it was showed more often.

Concerning the second Reality Check, this has nothing to do with CN, but with the "There are still many parents don't want their delicate children to be exposed with this kind of stuf" comment. I saw on the news a while back that on this show starring Buster Bunny, where Buster goes around... I forget if it's the US or the world, and Buster went into a home that had a lesbian couple in it. Heard there was a big ol' up roar about that. It's so crazy.

Damn the crappy people who won't open their minds!!! The world needs Homosexuality, we have to many people on this planet. It's like South Park thought, if we all get naked and have a big unisex orgy, the future won't suck...(I'm sorry if this post is "bad")

EXACTLY!!!!! they should be more open minded towards homosexuality on cn's teen titans. not everyone in the animated series "has" to be straight. it would be great if star and rae would be like their old comic selves kori and metrion and jus fall in love with eachother all over again as they did in the old comics. i mean, really! their still teenagers fur petes sake! they should at least be a LITTLE curious of liking the same sex.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has been getting crap about liking non-canon couples. Far too often have I seen people feeding me comments like "R U st00pid? [insert character name] lykz [insert character of opposite gender name], u shud kno dat if u saw da sh0w!!!!111" and even more often are my favorite comments (:roll:), "oMg deyz not gay!!11" and "wtf slash r rong!!!!1" I think at the rate this has been going, I'm surprised my keyboard doesn't have an imprint of my forehead after doing this so damn much: :slamhead: Everyone has an opinion (Gasp! Shock!), so I really don't see why these Rob/Star (and canon couples in general) zealots have to get in anyone's face if they disagree with that couple with their "I right u wrong!" attitude, when all it really proves is that they're ignorant conformist sheep.

It's also sad that after so many years have passed and after so many hurdles have been jumped, people still shit a brick at the very thought of someone liking someone of the same sex, even in just a friendly way *coughcough*Spongebob*cough*. I'm sure that the majority of teens have at least probed at the possibility of liking the same gender, so putting in at least some references shouldn't be that big of a deal; it's totally normal to have homosexual thoughts at least once in their lives, and it's all part of growing up. Not to mention that if something like that was put in, the kids who do have homosexual thoughts won't feel so shocked and disgusted with themselves as often as they do now (I know that's how I felt when I first had sexual thoughts about one of my best female friends), and I think the suicide rates in homosexual kids might drop at least a little bit if they see that there are some positive homosexual role models that exist outside of a lot of anime. Besides, if the kids watching aren't totally oblivious to the idea of homosexuality, which I think most of them within the target audience are provided that their parents haven't brought the whole thing up themselves and started flipping a bitch about it, it can teach kids that you can still be a great person even if you really are gay/bi/pan/whatever. Which I think is something society needs; I'm really sick of people shoving homo/bi/pan/whatever-sexuals into a bad light.

Alright, I think I've said my bit. I just get really annoyed at people's ignorance sometimes and I really have to vent it out.

Oh *gasp* lesbian couple! Please, some one needs to shock people into knowing that not everyone is the same, despite how we mass produce everything! (Do any of you make your own clothes? me neither) No one thinks alike, looks alike ('cept twins, but they're still individuals), or acts perfectly alike. How boring would that be?

And, even if you love another member of the same gender, it does NOT nessassarily mean that you want ot jump their bones and wild, passionate intercourse with them. Love can be more than realized lust. In today's day and age, we seem to use the feelings indiscriminately, and i think that's the reason for such a high divorce rate (I live in the US, so that's where I'm speaking of). People mistake their feelings of desire for love, and well, lust fades away with time.

Homosexual love, whether it culminates in intercourse or not, is not a bad thing, but merely proves that we are not all cookie cutter drones that all must love the opposite gender. If you love someone, how can it be wrong/ immoral/ evil? Christian and Judeo and Islamic religion speaks of love as one of the highest virtues, one of the Ten Commandments is: Love thy neighbor as thyself. And yet, when two people love each other, and wish to spen the rest of their lives together, and they just so happen to be the same gender, this love is villainized as the work of the Devil. How hypocritical is that?

Lecture over now, sorry I just kinda got carried away.

I'm Jewish myself, but that is one of the HUGE issues I have with my reiligion.

Sorry for carrying on like that.

I remember that South Park episode fondly. I'd love it if they'd open their minds and make a Star/Rae centred episode of Teen Titans...Which will probably never happen...

it is a pity that it won'T happen... world is to closeminded - I always thought that Raven and Star has a very close connection although I rarely know the series (just got a few comics)
It's also the same as with sailormoon's Michiru and Haruka - man they ARE a couple - the german snychronisation changed the dialogues so it wouldn't sound like a relationship between lovers, but like those relations between friends... In america they changed Haruka's (I guess she's called amara in USA) gender into male -.- long live america with it's shizoid moralism :steaming:

I don't know either if Raven and Star would be a couple ever but I like the imagination and I like what I see when I draw both and close my eyes to play with my phantasy (NONO THIS IS NOT MEANT AS PERVERT AS IT SOUNDS ^^;)

whatever: Rae and Star 4 ever :heart: + :pride:

Shoot now I have more books to hunt down, thank god for those little grab bags that started hitting again.

Though yeah I wouldn't mind it I doubt we'll see it. On the US Sailor Moon with Michiru & Haruka, I think in the manga dub they made her an it (both sexes) though in the show I think they made sick as they were cousins and, that to me was gross. One reason I hate to see Stars dubbed, they really show they are a couple in that series.

In anime in general there is a lot of homosexuality (Sailor Moon, Saiyuki, Revolutionary Girl Utena to name a few). And at least the writers of the non-Japanese shows like Teen Titans are trying to imply the love between people like Starfire and Raven (even if it's only obvious to people who already knew of its existance). Personally I'm not homosexual (wich I guess makes my being here a little perverted . . .) but I support homosexuality entirely (yes, even yaoi stuff).
Hopefully other countries (mine included) will eventually open up their minds like Japan has done. (Actually, in parts of Japan's history homosexuality is considered better than heterosexuality) Just puttin' some stuff out there . . .
